Updates for Sunday 5/23

UCONN Summer learning program will start Monday June 21st till mid August

Remote meetings Monday and Thursdays from 5pm to 6pm

Will need to have a gcloud account created using a gmail account

Teams of 2 to 3 students will work together

Goal is learn the google cloud platform and understand how to become a
full stack developer

Teams with ideas can work on them and we will provide assistance

Stamford high Skyla Miranda Reyes came up with the idea of translating
regular US mail is a great example.

How can we do this?
One way would be to

Take a photo with your phone
Send it to Google vision API for Optical Character Recognition
Use Google translate API
Send it back in your desired language

We will be working on a bi-directional translation app but I may just
break up the concepts into smaller more manageable code chunks for
learning purposes,

Ultimate goal is to develop software for community use (see google

Building up the blog for the summer

We will be registering a gmail account with cloud.google.com and
google will provide $300 in credits to each person. Need to have a
credit card to register.

The programs we will use will not incur a lot of google charges so I
can expect that only a fraction of the $300 credit will be used.


I allowed each person access to the languagecomm share.

This is where all the code is being kept that we will review and
implement this summer.

The goal will be to implement production ready translation programs in
the Boys and Girls club of Stamford and Family Centers.

These programs will help these non-profit organization by providing
bi-diectional communication for it members.

I'll probably schedule a webex soon for questions.
